Is Telehealth the right fit for me?
Telehealth isn’t the right fit for everyone - and that’s okay. You need to consider what might be the right fit for you. Below I have discussed some important considerations.
Firstly, Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) both recognise Telehealth as an ethical mode of therapy. While Telehealth was more rare during 2020, it’s now widely used and embraced by both psychologists and clients.
In relation to security and confidentiality, Courtney Ah Shay Psychology uses Zanda as the practice platform. Zanda is certified & compliant with the following security & privacy standards. Zanda has a partnership with the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC). This allow Zanda to be informed when there are threats to cybersecurity.
When deciding if you want to do Telehealth appointments, it is important to ensure your space is private and you are able to speak freely and comfortably. During face to face appointments, you are provided with a comfortable private enclosed room and therefore, the Telehealth space should be similar. If you are unable to facilitate this in your own space, Telehealth is likely not the space for you.
Additionally, completing Telehealth whilst driving or undertaking other activities that require concentration is not advisable, and Courtney Ah Shay Psychology encourages prioritising your safety and responsibility at all times. If you find it difficulty to set aside time to do things and suspect you might find it hard to sit down and do therapy supervised by yourself, you may benefit from coming in person.
It’s possible Telehealth might be appropriate for you now but not later and vice versa - things change, that’s the human condition and life itself. Further, your psychologist may advise what may be the best fit depending on what you’re seeking therapy for. You can speak to your Psychologist to discuss your suitability for Telehealth and review your decision throughout your treatment.
